The Strike Report - November 2007
QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
“The sweat that comes from a man’s brow is his greatest
nobility”

Reading Comprehension =
Knowledge and Credibility for the Instructor
As you know at Strike International we like to read and we
encourage our instructors to do the same. The reason for this is so that we may
be better informed and also to remain current on issues that affect us in this
profession. To quote a great truth concerning reading and comprehension which
comes from Richard Steele, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the
body.” It keeps us sharp and knowledgeable, giving us both an insight and
perspective to new ideas and techniques, and allowing us to respond
intelligently to others. It also helps us to better form our own thoughts,
opinions and answers. Knowledge is the fundamental base for credibility and
authority in the classroom.
Some of the best instructors I have been around are those individuals who take
it upon themselves to read and stay current with training concepts. They are
also the ones who usually take what they have learned and be the first to try it
out and share their information with others. They are innovators and I like
that!
At Strike International we have a section on our website titled
“Strike Bookshelf.” As you browse through the
current selection of recommended reading you will see that it covers a wide
perspective of different topics and issues. We try to change it up twice a year
and add new selected materials that we find both pertinent and worthy. We do
this so that we may share and pass on what we have learned to others. Having
said all of this, below is a new book being recommended:
“MY MEN ARE MY HEROES” – The Brad Kasal story - An
extraordinary example of combat mindset, courage and leadership in action during
the brutal fight for Fallujah, Iraq.
