The Strike Report - October 2008

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:

It is All About Attitude!

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - your rifle in one hand - a magazine in the other, yelling "WOW...what a ride!"    ~  Author Unknown - But it is a good one!

The Firearms Instructor and Safety Protocol:

Safety is the priority of any firearms training program, whether it is conducting dry-fire drills, live-fire or force-on-force Simmunition type training.  Additionally, range safety awareness must also focus on other issues too, such as the physical health of the students, proper safety equipment, environmental issues and an adequate number of instructor personnel.  The firearms instructor must be uncompromising when it comes to safety protocol or risk having to deal with some serious liability issues, and perhaps even the loss of a training program.  This is an area where firearms instructors and line safety officers must really put forth and show their strength of character in regards to range responsibility and leadership.  Remember, we must always strive for mission excellence and nothing less.

Safety In Training - a definition:

"Safety in training is achieving a level of excellence in safety protocol that ensures the absolute minimization of risk, regardless of training objectives."

The Mission Objective:

"To safely and effectively teach firearms skills that help the student achieve and maintain a level of proficient confidence with their weapon."
